In today’s generation, a vast majority of Muslims are opting for online Muslim marriage sites to find their potential spouse, as it is one of the easiest ways to find your better half. However, there are certain rules and regulation to keep in mind while using online Muslim marriage sites for marriages. Here we will be discussing about the certain Islamic rulings regarding getting married via online Muslim marriage sites:

  • Compliance to the Islamic Sharia standards. There should not be any free mixing or one-on-one contact between the men and women. There must be involvement of a wali or guardian from the women side.
  • Online Muslim marriage sites should not show pictures of the woman to every random member on the site. Rather they should make sure to allow looking and sharing of woman’s pictures only to the compatible member after he has resolved to marry the woman. It is not permissible to allow any xyz to look at the woman’s picture.
  • The Online Muslim marriage sites should not be giving detailed descriptions of any woman so that it is as if one is seeing her. As according to the hadith of our beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): “No woman should describe another woman to her husband so that it is as if he is looking at her.” [Narrated by al-Bukhari (5240)]
  • There should be consent of the wali from the woman’s side, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There is no marriage except with a wali and two witnesses of good character.” (Narrated by al-Bayhaqi)
  • The main objective of Online Muslim marriage sites should be helping the Muslims in finding their compatible better half with compliance to the Islamic Sharia. They should make sure to only allow Muslims looking for a potential spouse with the sole intention of getting married, not for mere friendship or dating.

We pray that may Allah, the Almighty save us all from any wrongdoings/fitna, guide us all to the straight path and may He bless you all, looking to get marry, with a righteous better half, Aameen
